How to read it
- Per hour of work is the amount times your chance, divided by all the hours: applying, plus reporting if you win. It is an average over many applications, not a promise for this one.
- Below what your hour is worth? The grant may still be right for you: a first grant from a funder that comes back every year, or one that brings partners. But know the trade before you start.
- A short first step is a cheap test. An expression of interest or a letter of inquiry costs a few hours. Only the funder’s shortlist writes the full proposal.
- When small grants don’t pay, the same hours may raise more from individual donors, members, a local business or a crowdfunding campaign.
Where the numbers come from
The amount and the steps on each listing come from the funder’s own page. Your chance and your hours are your own estimate: we never guess them for you. When a funder publishes how many applications it funded, the listing shows it with the funder’s words.
